President´s Message
We are pleased to announce the Sixth International Conference on Preventive Cardiology (ICPC) to be held from 21 to 25 May 2005 at Foz de Iguaçu, Brazil. This event it organized by the World Heart Federation through its Council of Epidemiology and Prevention and co-sponsored by the Interamerican Society of Cardiology and the Interamerican Heart Foundation, with the participation of the Center for Diseases Control (CDC), the National Heart and Lung Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) among other institutions.
The theme of this important scientific event "Global Action for Heart Health ", focusing on primary and secondary prevention, will attract more than 3.000 specialists all over the world.
It is clear that cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are not inevitable but they are largely preventable. By now and until 2020, CVD is the most prevalent cause of death and disability and is responsible for one out of three deaths worldwide. Actually, they contribute to 17 million deaths annually, and 80% of them occur in the low and middle-income countries.
The scientific program is now in preparation and will cover the main subjects related to the prevention of CVD from Genomics to Public Health, covering the current and new risk factors and highlighting primary and secondary prevention as well as related diseases such as diabetes, and obesity.
We wish therefore to invite the healthcare industry to join us in this meeting and in reaching the goals set by the Organizing Committee, chaired by myself and the Scientific Advisory Committee, Co-Chaired by Srinath Reddy and Aloyzio Achutti.
We look forward to your participation in the Sixth International Conference on Preventive Cardiology (ICPC) which will contribute to exchange expertise and experience toward a better prevention and control of CVD.
