FOCUS ON CARDIAC INTERVENTIONS A satellite symposium held during the 21st Congress of the European Society of Cardiology 29 August - 1 September, 1999, Barcelona, Spain ![]() |
This year, the ESC will introduce a special programme within the ESC Congress focusing on cardioac interventions.
The objectives of the Focus programme will be:
- To illustrate the present indications for - and the result of - percutaneous interventional procedures in various disorders.
- To provide an in-depth discussion of alternative therapeutic strategies for each clinical problem.
- To provide a European view point of interventional procedures through live cases transmitted from several European centres.
- To highlight some of the most recently developed techniques in interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery.
The Focus programme will include symposia and a debate but will concentrate on the transmission of live cases and edited videotapes. Some common clinical problems will be addressed:
- Treatment of acute coronary syndromes involving platelet antagonists or mechanical revascularisation.
- Treatment of proximal LAD-stenosis by using PTCA with brachytherapy or MIDCAB surgery.
- Treatment of patients with atrial septal defect by using port-access surgical repair or percutaneous closure.
- Treatment of multivessel coronary disease by beating heart surgery or multivessel stenting.
- Treatment of mitral stenosis by minimally invasive surgery or percutaneous commissurotomy.
