Abstract

The determination of the interatrial conduction time (IACT) is useful to optimize the AV interval of dual chambers pacemakers (DDD).
The IACT is determined using a bipolar transesophageal catheter. We propose the use of the interatrial electromechanical conduction time (IAEMCT) measured from the PM atrial spike to the beginning of the A wave of the transmitral flow by echo-doppler.
IACT and IAEMCT were compared in 36 pts with DDD.
There were no statistical significant differences between IACT and IAEMCT.
IAEMCT evaluates better the real AV synchronism since the electromechanical coupling is included.
