Abstract

To evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the coupling between RT and RR interval we analysed RR/RT-apex variability interaction with a dynamic parametric model whose parameters can be directly estimated from the beat to beat series RR and RT-apex intervals. The model is designed to separate the fraction of RT-apex variability driven by RR changes from that independent of RR variations and to quantify the gain and phase of the relationship between RR and RT-apex intervals. In normal subject at rest, most of the variability detectable in the RT-apex signal reflects the spontaneous oscillations of RR interval, particularly in correspondence of the low and high frequency components. The determination of the RT percent power independent of RR changes could be used to quantify the degree of uncoupling between the two signals thus providing a new and non invasive index of dispersion of ventricular repolarisation.
