Dispersion of QT interval in ectopic ventricular beats. A new approach to assessment of ventricular inhomogeneity

Andrzej Dabrowski, Ryszard Piotrowicz, Elzbieta Kramarz.

Introduction

Many clinical studies demonstrated the relationship between prolonged dispersion of QT interval and increased risk for malignant ventricular arrhythmias1-4. In all studies the dispersion of QT interval was measured only in sinus beats, and, to our knowledge, there is no information on the magnitude and clinical significance of QT interval dispersion measured in ectopic ventricular beats (QTdV).
The present study was therefore designed to measure QTdV from the surface electrocardiogram (ECG) of patients with ectopic ventricular beats (EVBs) due to a variety of aetiologies, and to analyse the relation between the magnitude of QTdV and varied clinical as well as electrocardiographic parameters.
