Abstract
|
|
This article is a review on the prophylactic use of
ICD in post-myocardial infarction patients. The rationale for this use and the results of
recently terminated randomized trials, as well as the study design and the expectations of
other still ongoing or just starting trials, are discussed. It is clear that, at the
present time, the prophylactic use of ICD is justified only in a very selected and small
subgroup of high-risk patients with previous myocardial infarction, ie those that fit the
MADIT criteria.
