Patients and methods

The Italian Network for Congestive Heart Failure (IN-CHF) is the result of the joint efforts of 108 departments of Cardiology who agreed to include prospectively the patients referred for heart failure in a national data base. At the moment more than 5500 patients have been admitted and are routinely seen on regular basis. From the national database for congestive heart failure patients, we selected those who underwent 24-hour Holter monitoring at the time of admission visit or immediately before. Major clinical and epidemiological variables were tested in univariate and multivariate analysis in order to identify the predictors of non sustained ventricular tachycardia.
Non sustained ventricular tachycardia was defined as a run of three or more ventricular beats lasting less than thirty seconds.
