Abstract

Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) technique allows to
measure the myocardial wall velocities by positioning the sample volume on the myocardial
wall: the curves of the regional myocardial velocity distribution can be obtained during
the whole cardiac cycle. Aims of this study were: 1) to detect the left atrial appendage
(LAA) wall velocities during synapse rhythm (SR) and 2) to evaluate the possibility of
measuring the cycle length of atrial fibrillation (AF) waves, directly on LAA walls, by
tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) and pulsed wave TDI (PW-TDI). TDI technique allows to measure
the cycle length of AF directly on the LAA wall and to evaluate the correlation between AF
waves of LAA wall and intracavitary flow in several clinical or electrophysiological
settings.
