L Rydén

Lars E Rydén is Professor of Cardiology at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. He also holds the position of President of the Boards of the European Society of Cardi-ology, and Chairman of the Scientific Board of the Swedish Heart Foundation. Professor Rydén has published exten-sively in the field of cardiology and serves on the editorial boards of several cardiology journals. His special interests include cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac pacing, heart failure, hypertension and myocardial infarction. In 1996 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Kungliga Patriotiska Sällsakapet for outstanding services to the swedish nation.

M Böhm
Michael Böhm is Professor of Cardiology at the University of Cologne, Germany. His major research interests are pathophysiology and gene expression in heart failure and hypertrophy, and the mechanism of action of adrenergic agents in the management of cardiovascular disease.
T Lüscher
Thomas F Lüscher is Head of Cardiology at the University Hospital, Zürich, Switzerland, and Professor of Cardiology at the same university. Professor Lüscher leads a research group with special interest in vascular disease, endothelial factors and atherosclerosis. He is a prolific author, and has published many research papers and review articles in peer-reviewed journals.
H Dargie
Henry J Dargie is Consultant Cardiologist at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, and Co-Director of the Clinical Research Initiative in Heart Failure at the University of Glasgow, UK. He is also a member of the Management Group of the University’s School of Cardiovascular Studies. While Professor Dargie’s main research is concerned with heart failure, his area of interest also covers the mechanisms in, and cardiovascular pharmacology of, angina pectoris. He also has an interest in exercise testing in cardiac disease and the relationship between exercise and health.

M Fowler
Michael B Fowler is Professor of Medicine ion the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Stanford University Medical Center, California, USA. His major research interest is in the clinical management of heart failure and he has published widely in this area. He has been involved in many of the major clinical trials examining the role of ß blockade in heart failure.
H Krum
Henry Krum is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Monash University, as well as Heart Failure Physician and Head of Clinical Pharmacology at the Alfred Hospital, Prahan, Victoria, Australia. His main area of research interest is in the therapeutics of cardiovascular disease. He has published extensively in the area of heart failure, particularly on the role of ß blockade.
M Packer
Milton Packer is Head of the Center for Heart Failure Research and Director of Heart Failure Center at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, USA. He has been involved in a number of large-scale trials of ß blockade in heart failure, and has published widely in the area of heart failure management and therapeutics.

WJ Remme

Willem J Remme is Director of ‘Sticares’ Cardiovascular Research Foundation, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Senior Lecturer at the Julius Centre for Patient-Oriented Care, University of Utrecht, The Netherlands; and Visiting Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona, Tuscon, AZ USA. Professor Remme’s expertise and special interests include management issues, neurohormonal aspects and drug therapy in heart failure. Professor Remme is Editor-in- Chief of Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy, Editor of Advances in Cardiology published by Karger Verlag, and a editorial board member on a number of international cardiology journals.
