Mechanisms of SCD in patients with ischemic heart disease

On these pages we will comment on the mechanisms which explain the appearence of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). We will discuss the concept of a vulnerable myocardium, and the action of different triggers and modulators which, acting on this vulnerable myocardium, may precipitate the final step leading to final arrhythmia and SCD¹.
