Background

Recently it has come to be understood that the pulmonary veins and the areas surrounding their ostia frequently house focal triggers or reentrant circuits critical to the genesis of atrial fibrillation. We developed an anatomically-guided ablative approach aimed at isolating each pulmonary vein from the left atrium by creating circumferential lines of conduction block around their ostia.
