Methods

From 1974 to January 1999, 1952 young [<35 yrs, 1637 males (m), 315 females (f), mean age 21.4 yrs], competitive athletes, has been studied on an individualized basis, with non invasive e/o invasive procedures, based on a codified clinical and instrumental protocol for documented or suspected arrhythmias endangering their careers; 161/1952 (139 m, 28 f, mean age 24.5 yrs) were elite athletes including Italian, European, World, and Olimpic Champions.
