The registry demonstratesthe restricted use of
AAI (R) pacing in Europe. Except for a few countries the ICD implantation rate is low. So,
actually, Europeans have only limited access to ICD treatment. When used, there is an
absolute preference for single lead transvenous systems and for devices with brady- and
antitachy-pacing mode.
It is extremely difficult to obtain ICD data from all countries. For ablations, collection of data
is almost impossible for most countries.
The differences between countries in the use of unipolar or bipolar leads, and in the use of
active or passive fixation prove that a double controversy remains.
