Abstract

Primary prevention of arrhythmic death in patients with organic heart disease and particularly after myocardial infarction is currently a major challenge in cardiology. Several techniques are now available for stratification of patients into subgroup at high and low risk for arrhythmic death. Since no single variable can accurately identify high-risk patients, it is often necessary to combine several techniques to stratify patients. Although combinatorial algorithms that utilize several non-invasive (and invasive) tests may provide better risk stratification, there is still not consensus regard the best management strategy for the identification and treatment of the patients at high risk of arrhythmic death.
