Abstract

Aetiology and pathophysiology of the “right bundle branch block, ST segment elevation in the right precordial leads and sudden death” syndrome are controversial. The recent discovery of genetic abnormalities linked to this syndrome suggests a primary electrical disease, but several authors have reported a similar electrocardiographic pattern in patients with right ventricular cardiomyopathy. In our study we prospectively evaluated the clinical characteristics and follow-up of six patients with right bundle branch block and ST segment elevation admitted to our Institute. In the majority, but not in all, we found a right ventricular cardiomyopathy. Their prognosis does not appear poor, but a longer follow up is needed.
