Introduction
|
|
Flecainide (F) and propafenone (P), IC class antyarrhythmic drugs,
administered in a single oral dose, have shown a high efficacy in the conversion of recent onset atrial fibrillation
(AF) (success rate ranging from 51 to 63% and 72 to 90% for P and from 59 to 82% and 78 to 100% for F at the third
and eigth hour respectively)1-4. All trials were carried out during the hospitalization. In our opinion, a target to
pursue is the use of this administration modality in home treatment of recent onset AF, when the number of
episodes is not so high (4-6/year). The early treatment of arrhythmia could reduce both the patient’s discomfort
and the cost of hospital care.
The aims of our study were: to verify the efficacy, riproducibility and safety of the treatment of recent onset AF by
a single oral loading of P and F, first in hospital and afterwards, in responder patients, at home.
